Integer Multiplication with Overflow Detection or Saturation
نویسندگان
چکیده
ÐHigh-speed multiplication is frequently used in general-purpose and application-specific computer systems. These systems often support integer multiplication, where two n-bit integers are multiplied to produce a 2n-bit product. To prevent growth in word length, processors typically return the n least significant bits of the product and a flag that indicates whether or not overflow has occurred. Alternatively, some processors saturate results that overflow to the most positive or most negative representable number. This paper presents efficient methods for performing unsigned or two's complement integer multiplication with overflow detection or saturation. These methods have significantly less area and delay than conventional methods for integer multiplication with overflow detection or saturation. Index TermsÐOverflow, saturation, two's complement, unsigned, integer, array multipliers, tree multipliers, computer arithmetic.

Overflow Detection in Residue Number System, Moduli Set {2n-1,2n,2n+1}
Residue Number System (RNS) is a non-weighted number system for integer number arithmetic, which is based on the residues of a number to a certain set of numbers called module set. The main characteristics and advantage of residue number system is reducing carry propagation in calculations. The elimination of carry propagation leads to the possibility of maximizing parallel processing and reduc...

متن کاملAn Efficient Implementation of Floating Point Multiplier using Verilog
To represent very large or small values, large range is required as the integer representation is no longer appropriate. These values can be represented using the IEEE754 standard based floating point representation. Floating point multiplication is a most widely used operation in DSP/Math processors, robots, air traffic controller, digital computers. Because of its vast areas of application, t...
متن کاملModular Arithmetic Decision Procedure
All integer data types in programs (such as int, short, byte) have an underlying finite representation in hardware. This finiteness can result in subtle integer-overflow errors that are hard to reason about both for humans and analysis tools alike. As a first step towards finding such errors automatically, we will describe two modular arithmetic decision procedures for reasoning about bounded i...
متن کاملA Taint Based Smart Fuzzing Approach for Integer Overflow Vulnerability Detection
-Fuzzing is one of the most commonly used methods to detect software vulnerabilities which are one major cause of information security incidents. The basic idea of fuzzing is to discover software vulnerabilities by feeding unexpected input and monitoring abnormal behaviors. Although it has advantages of simple design and low error report, its efficiency is usually poor. In this paper we present...
